THE WINNER: Congrats to Jessica H., the recipient of the Course Report Flatiron Scholarship! Because there were so many amazing applicants, Flatiron School also decided to award a Learn scholarship to Dallin W. Thank you so much for applying, and keep an eye out for our next full scholarship!

THE SCHOLARSHIP

Flatiron School has been a leader in immersive coding education since 2012, and we’ve watched as they’ve produced amazing graduates like Vaidehi and Stephanie. That’s why we are so excited to announce the Course Report Web Development Full Scholarship for Flatiron School’s Web Development Immersive. You read that correctly- a FULL scholarship worth $15,000.

We talk to a lot of bootcamp alumni, and can say that Flatiron School grads are special. Why? Because Flatiron School is serious about training creative, passionate people. And we know the value of a creative coder. The former poet, the copywriter, the musician: students with non-technical backgrounds can really shine in tech, and we’re inviting those creative superstars to take advantage of this scholarship opportunity!

Wondering how you can learn to code without a computer science degree?

Just ask Tyler, a lifelong musician and multi-instrumentalist—and a Flatiron School alum—brought together his love of music, design, and development through the launch of SoundViz: a site that converts the soundwave of your favorite song into a piece of high-quality, ready-to-hang art.

Or ask Lauren Scott, who was a poet before graduating from Dev Bootcamp. Lauren attributes her success as a developer to her humanities education: “You see the attention to detail; you’re trained in critical thinking. In a liberal arts education, you spend a lot of time making connections between different theories and texts. In the case of programming, you’re making similar connections but with a different toolset. I think people who have an artistic background, particularly people who have been through things like workshopping, are able to self-edit and also listen to others and incorporate their feedback.”

Plus, the data doesn’t lie. We studied the success of hundreds of coding bootcamp graduates, and some of the highest salaried students studied Art and English. That’s right- Art Majors had an average salary of $75,300. Music majors saw the most drastic change in salary after attending a coding bootcamp, and Foreign Language majors were most likely (100% in fact) to be employed as a developer after graduating from the bootcamp.

To us, this means one thing: if you’re a creative person with coding skills from a bootcamp, then employers want to hire you. Flatiron School wants to teach you those coding skills, and one of our readers will get to attend tuition-free in July.

Important Dates

Applications are due by 11:59pm EST on June 21, 2016, and scholarship winners will be selected by July 5. Class will begin in New York City on July 25th.

How to Apply

  1. Complete the application, which includes a short essay about why you’re passionate about learning to program.
  2. Get started on the prework: to help yourself stand out as an applicant and start learning to program today, get started on your prework for free. It will give you a taste of what it will be like to be a student at Flatiron School and help you decide if becoming a developer is the right path for you. You don’t need to finish the whole track, though the more you do the more ready you’ll be to learn with us. The entire track takes about 150 hours, so best to get started now.

Good luck! Remember to complete the application before June 21st!

FAQs

Q: Is this scholarship only applicable for the July 25th cohort?

A: This scholarship is for the July 25th start class. However, if you discover that those dates do not work for you and you are invited to interview, you can speak to the Flatiron team about other options. So go ahead and apply!

Q: I'm an international student. Can I still apply?

A: Yes, foreign citizens are eligible to apply. However, please note that this scholarship is for a 12-week, in-person course in New York City, so you would have to be able to commit to being in NYC for those 12 weeks. If you're unable to do the in-person course, then you should check out Flatiron Learn, the online version. You can get more info (plus we have a $250 discount for that course) here: http://go.flatironschool.com/learn-verified-course-report-scholarship

Q: I'm already enrolled in Learn Verified. Can I still apply?

A: No; this scholarship is for new Flatiron School students only.

Q: Will I have enough time to complete the 150 hours of prep work before the immersive bootcamp starts?

A: Yes, and you can start on the prework whenever you'd like! http://prework.flatironschool.com/

Good luck! Remember to complete the application before June 21st!
