What did you do before Epicodus? Why did you choose to attend?
I was an Instructional Designer/Training Developer for nearly 7 years prior to Epicodus. My job required that I work closely with software developers and I came to the realization that I was spending a great amount of time troubleshoot bugs and enjoying it too! I chose Epidocus because I wanted to learn how to code and make it my career. Epicodus stood out because they openly share their course material and they had an internship program to get my feet into the door.
What's your job title today? Where do you work?
My current job title is Junior Web Developer at Sq1 in Portland, Oregon. Sq1 is also the same company I did my Epicodus internship with.
What's your advice to someone considering Epicodus or another coding bootcamp?
One thing that has helped me immensely is understanding what you are learning in class isn't as important as learning how to learn. Coding is a forever changing landscape, some of the materials we were using in class became outdated mid-week due to developers releasing new standards and packages. It important to not get too frustrated when something isn't working as intended as this will be a constant in your coding career, focusing on figuring out how to make it work and what steps you can take to get closer to your goal will keep you moving forward.
