Average Rating 4.9
191 Reviews 3 Courses

Codeworks is an immersive coding bootcamp with campuses in several locations around the world. Students can attend Codeworks courses in-person or remotely. Programs include 8-week and 12-week, full-time, software engineering and full-stack web development courses. All programs cover HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Node, Express, SQL and NoSQL databases, Angular, and React, with the 12-week course also covering DevOps, continuous deployment and systems architecture.

The courses are divided into two sections: theory and advanced programming topics, then applied learning through building complete products. Codeworks aims to help students build complex apps and gain an advanced understanding of JavaScript. Graduates should be able to build entire applications and contribute to coding projects of any size.

Codeworks is tailored for people at any level with a three-part program process. To apply, candidates must first pass an admission challenge. Applicants with no previous coding experience are offered a remote intro course that covers programming fundamentals, basic JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and more. Once admitted into the program, students complete an 8-week, remote pre-course where covering intermediate programming topics like jQuery, Git, Developer tools, and intro to APIs. Once students pass the pre-course, they can start the main programming course.

All Codeworks programs include hiring events at the end of the course, including portfolio preparation and tech interview training. Finally, all graduates receive lifelong career support, and become part of an international network of alumni and partner companies.

    Good bootcamp questionable company

A long but honest review. If I could do it again, I would choose somewhere else.  To give this company a little credit, you do actually learn quite a bit during your time in the course, and most of the instructors were friendly and knowledgeable, but...

    Alex of Codeworks

    CEO

    Nov 09, 2023

    Dear Christopher,

We’re sorry to hear that your experience wasn’t up to your expectations. We work every day to improve, and any constructive feedback is welcome. On the other hand, there are some statements in your review that we can’t reconcile at all with our way of working, and even pass the threshold of defamation.

Be assured that we do care a lot about our students, and have been constantly doing so for more than 7 years, as shown in all the reviews here and on several other platforms.

Just to make an example, when you failed the assessment to progress to the second half of the course, we offered you to repeat the entire first half for free. Honestly, this doesn’t seem the behavior of an educational institution that prioritizes profit over student care.

Also, you said that our student-to-teacher ratio is 40 to 1. But during your cohort there were 30 students in total, and we had 15 instructors on duty (of which 11 were full-time and 4 part-time). This is a 2 to 1 ratio, which is even better than our general approach of 5 to 1.

Regarding our methodology, sometimes we encourage students to read the docs or push them to find a solution on their own if useful, instead of providing the full solution upfront. This is part of how we work and helps the students develop certain skills that are required to become successful software engineers.

We understand this might not be a good fit for your learning style and we would have happily addressed this earlier if you had brought it up with us during the course.

About the online vs onsite course, we make very clear on our website and during the whole admission process that there are only 3 differences for the onsite option: a dedicated campus, meeting your tutor in person for daily check-ins, and working next to your classmates. We even have a website page dedicated just to this: https://codeworks.me/program-comparison/

On another topic, we can assure you that we take career assistance and student outcomes very seriously. In fact, we are one of the very few bootcamps in the world that transparently publishes outcomes data (every 6 months), and clearly states how this data is generated: https://codeworks.me/outcomes/

There are no “unspoken caveats”. The term “actively looking” simply means that the student is applying to companies. Because if someone doesn’t apply to jobs at all they can’t get hired. We mentor students, encourage them, and assist them every step of the way. If they decide not to run a job search in the end it’s a personal choice (and totally legitimate). Also, honoring our transparency, in our outcomes data we clearly state how many students decide not to run a job search.

Finally, regarding the laptops stolen, we’re deeply sorry for what happened and, as you mentioned, we were damaged as well. The laptops were all left unattended and, as the security cameras have shown, the burglar entered the building when a student was receiving a food delivery.

We went out of our way to support the students, by getting everyone a new laptop within hours (which is outside of the services we offer and clearly not included in our contractual obligations), so that you could continue your educational experience with as little disruption as possible.

Also, we offered dedicated extra tutoring to your group to recover any missed instructional topics or notes.

At the time of the event, to make sure we complied with the highest standards, we reviewed our policies with other top educational institutions, and no school or university ever reimburses their students for stolen items that are left unattended. Also, we tell our students in person at the beginning of the course and state in our contract that everyone is responsible for attending their valuables.

I hope this answers at least some of your concerns. Please rest assured that we work every day to improve our offering. We’re always available to hear your feedback and are excited to help all our students become successful software engineers.
