I recently had the pleasure of completing BrainStation's Online Marketing Course, and I am thrilled to share my overwhelmingly positive experience. The course has exceeded my expectations in various aspects, from the comprehensive content to the engaging learning platform.

First and foremost, the curriculum is incredibly well-designed, covering a wide spectrum of topics within the realm of online marketing. From the fundamentals of digital marketing to advanced strategies in SEO, social media, and email marketing, the course provides a holistic and up-to-date overview of the ever-evolving landscape. The modules are structured in a logical sequence, building on each other to create a seamless learning journey.

One of the standout features of BrainStation's course is the hands-on, practical approach to learning. The inclusion of real-world case studies, practical exercises, and industry-relevant projects allowed me to apply theoretical concepts in a practical setting. I really enjoyed taking this course with Brainstation, I had some background experience in the UI/UX design field but I wanted to expand my UX knowledge. This course is a good place to learn the basics of UX so its very approachable for someone with no industry experience. If you have reasonable UI knowledge the content at the end of the course is a little familiar. Brainstation has a seperate UI course so I didn't expect this.

I enjoyed that the whole course was based around building one project, this created a very useful casestudy to share afterwards. The online course also has a small cohort so I felt like I could easily access 1:1 time with the tutors. It was also nice to hear perspectives from industry experts on what is currently relevant.  Read less

Coming out of the Architecture profession and looking for a career transition to UX Design, I first attended BrainStation's 'Intro: UX Design' workshop to have a taste for what it entailed. It left such an impression on me that I signed up for the bootcamp course the following day! 

Having just graduated from the course, I can say it was one of the most challenging yet rewarding things I've done. During the 12 weeks, I was pushed out of my comfort zone, to think critically and problem-solve from different perspectives. It broadened my design thinking and how I perceived digital products, both from a user and business standpoint. Throughout the course, there is a good balance of individual and group projects, as well as a hackathon project where you get the opportunity to cross-collaborate with other disciplines for an industry client to tackle a real-world problem, which many other bootcamps don't provide. The cohorts are also quite small (around 10-13 per class) so the learning feels much more personalised, plus there are regular 1-to-1 check-ins with the educators to make sure everything is on track. And it was very assuring that they help guide you and not directly give you the answers so that you can tackle the problems independently.

For those from a design background considering the UX design bootcamp, there are many design fundamental content that you may already know (i.e. colour theory, typography etc) that are taught towards the latter stages of the course, which I personally found stagnated my learning a bit compared to my peers who had no prior knowledge of it as these are taught at traditional schools, so do bear that in mind. Initially, I found the structure unusual to be learning it so late but the early stages of the course were heavily concentrated on the user experience and research aspects, which were super informative and educational – they formed the base of the design thinking throughout the course, which then paved way towards the design fundamentals. I do think it could do with some restructuring as the content can be quite heavy alongside the intense workload towards the end of the bootcamp.

Overall, the bootcamp was a gratifying experience that I would highly recommend to those considering a career transition, and like an in-person learning experience with an emphasis on a 1-to-1 approach to projects. The general vibe of the learning environment was exceptional in terms of getting to know people from other courses, and the friendly engagements with all the staff there and their constant support – it truly felt like a close-knit community! I've taken 2 courses and a bootcamp through BrainStation. They've been great stepping stones into the world of tech, providing valuable structure into my own learning, along with amazing insights into the industry! I especially loved my Product Management educators, Tom and Kareem. Having two different people teaching at the same time really gave a well-balanced and fun class dynamic with so much expertise from different areas of the industry. As an aspiring web developer, I enrolled in this UX course to enhance my UX knowledge and design skills. Reflecting on the experience, I can confidently say that the course has significantly contributed to my journey toward achieving this goal.

This UX course stands out for its practical approach, effectively blending theoretical concepts with real-world applications. The course delves into the crucial role of user experience in enhancing the effectiveness of digital products like websites and apps. More than just a series of lectures, it fostered a significant shift in my approach to design, emphasizing the importance of a user-centric mindset.

A particularly strong aspect of the course was the instructor's expertise. They provided extensive industrial knowledge and real-life examples, bringing abstract concepts to life and demonstrating how these processes are implemented in actual design projects. This approach was instrumental in understanding the real-world impact and application of UX principles.

The final project also allowed me to gain hands-on experience by going through the whole design process and using design tools like Figma to make our design come to life.

However, the course schedule could be challenging for some students. Classes were held in the evenings, lasting three hours with a break. As someone like myself who finds it difficult to learn at night, this requires a period of adaptation. 

In conclusion, I recommend this UX course to anyone looking to gain UX knowledge and design skills. Read less

I studied Software Engineering at BrainStation and graduated this month and I couldn't have even prepared myself for what I was in for. The only two words I have for the learning experience are dense and remarkable. I came into the program not knowing a single line of code, I wouldn't have even been able to tell you what a <p> tag was. Over the course of 400 hours though, I studied harder than I ever have and often worked well into the early hours of the morning. The educators have such tremendous passion and my course mates and I thrived on it. I quit college to become a self-taught developer, but after 3 months of applying, I could not get a job, and I was lost and losing hope.

I decided to attend BrainStation as my last resort, and that was the best decision I've ever taken. Not only was I able to become a better developer in every single sense, but I was also was able to make deep friendships and get back something that I lost. I have back my hope.

The Brainstation curriculum is super strong, and the teachers are amazing human beings willing to help you with everything you need.

Coming in I must admit I was a bit skeptical of what the experience would be like, however BrainStation exceeded all my expectations. The curriculum was very challenging, I recommend brushing up on javascript skills before attending. There were people who were successful coming in not knowing anything but those with a bit of a background definitely had an advantage. The instructors were amazing and really wanted everyone to succeed and the TA's went out of their way to help those that were overwhelmed and falling behind. One of the best parts of the bootcamp was the people that I got to meet and commiserate with. Overall it was a life changing experience and I know it's a time in my life I'll remember forever and look back on with joy. Read less

Today is our last day of boot camp. Overall, I would say I learned a lot. It was definitely effective in teaching us hard and soft skills required for the industry. I would say that there’s some things that could have been organized and orchestrated better, such as the order and due dates of certain assignments. There were moments when we were shuffling 3 assignments at once, and other moments which were very relaxed- it could have been spread out more effectively. The career matching afterwards seems a bit sketchy. For example, the “speed interviews” they have at the end are filled with hiring partners who aren’t hiring. I think they get paid by LinkedIn because they really push using it towards finding employment. The instructors are great, and I truly did learn a lot, but at the end it is a money making establishment.  Read less

I had a great time at BrainStation. The experiencing was challenging, which is a great way to prepare us for the industry. But it was a fun experience nonetheless and I am grateful for the instructors who dedicated themselves to teaching us about UX Design for the last 3 months.
