NEXT Academy

Their online text based curriculum jumped from one topic to the next leaving you wondering if its going to be covered more in depth later, which it is not. There is no instructor. Instead, to answer your questions, there are two "mentors" ,  which are prior students of Next Academy, per class that arrive around 10:30, even though the day is meant to begin at 9:30. They then lunch from 12:30 sometimes until 2:30. They do try to give some instruction via a 30 minute "Breakout" from time to time, which means they code a project for 30 mins and you have to hope to remember some of what you saw during that time. Its basically just a study hall where you can get some questions answered if you're able to find a mentor. Several students dropped the course. When I asked to resit the class as advertised on their website, I was told no because, "I'm no longer a beginner student." Freecodecamp or The Odin Project are much better and they're free.

Dont get fooled by the heavy marketing campaign. Lets get the honest review

The teaching method is let you learn by yourself. If didnt know anything ask. lol.

It does stated that not programming background needed. but it is really bad.

They just provide a space and thats it. Not that great as for the amount of money you pay (RM11,800). They took alot of students also. more than 30 students for my batch.

They should teaches us everyday, everyday got lecture. not give us a RECORDED LECTURE to watch in class.

This course has roughly 25 students per intake, costs RM10,000 per person.

They are split in two groups, and each group has 2 mentors.
The mentors alternate, and 1 mentor guides a group at a time.
Each mentor will be pre-occupied with guiding those who understand and almost understand on their own.
Mentors are okay and are past graduates themselves (mostly but have some more experienced) but is too few to cope.

Each day, there will be a few tasks for you to complete on your own...
Expect to refer to Google and figure it out on your own...

If you are good at self-learning or if you had past exposure to IT, you will succeed and flourish...
If you find it a struggle to self-learn (with Google) a lot of content everyday for 9 weeks, especially if you are not from IT, you can expect yourself to drop out...

This course is suitable for those who have previously dabbled in code and have a decent understanding of Ruby (back-end), SQL (database), JavaScript, jQuery, HTML, CSS (front-end), all of which mostly is self-taught.

If you are fortunate to have a good coursemate, you could once in a while refer to him or her, a.k.a. "peer programming".

There is marginal help with the Rails framework, such as GitHub, Heroku, AWS, Redis, Postgres & SQLite3, Search, Bootstrap, API, ActiveRecord, MVC concept, RESTful routes, RSpec, TDD, using Sublime on Linux VM or Xcode on Mac.

The course is more focused with their own marketing as opposed to actual teaching.

Remember, 95% of graduates being employed / entrepreneurs is not the same as 95% of students being graduates....
Quite a number of students dropout over time.....

They warn you to not share their "intellectual property" to others, yet they have used "intellectual property" of Dev Bootcamp in the United States as well for the first few weeks.

Maybe you can use Google to check out Michael Hartl, the concepts above, Slack, Trello, or Udemy and Lynda.

It was a great experience for the past 5 weeks. I'm so grateful and kinda sad at the same time at the end of the course.

Place - Next Academy has the conducive and comfortable for a learning course. The location is strategic and next to 7e and makan places. Might need to improve on the audio at the back. Maybe put extra speakers. 

Syllabus - Overall, it was really worth it. High-quality speakers and well structured. Only the reason that stops me from publishing any campaign and ads is mainly because of the landing page. STOP USING WIX. Many errors and not sustainable in a long run. Straight forward using Wordpress, even using simple templates. Go figure. Seems like some of the speakers don't even prepared to be teaching on WIX platform. Or it is a way to upsell the Web Development course?

Speakers - All speakers has their own credibility. 

this suited my style of learning better than reading from the textbook . some people may or may not appreciate this style of teaching but we all need to be open minded about it because I started hating it and loved it subsequently.

learning together was great though sometimes some people just like to compete with others. fortunately the better ones in my group are open to share their knowledge.

some told me that they were surprised to be good at this as opposed to their studies in school. that applies to the other way around. some who were high flyers in school got shocked that they were not exactly the high flyers here. that happens in life, success in life is not determined by how many As you get in school.

I learned to make this my personal learning journey instead of being in a competition. you need to learn to coorporate and work together instead of being silo and put down ego to ask question even though it makes you feel stupid. dont let your ego waste your money

Some of the mentors are incompetent in answering questions and most of them are pretty young who has completed the bootcamp themselves in the prior year. Therefore i wouldnt blame them for not being well equipped with the adequate knowledge to actually teach. But why would you pay a hefty load of money for incompetent mentors and attend classes from Mondays to Fridays when everything is self-teaching yourself on a stupid learning portal. They will actually tell you "this is the best way to learn", i wouldnt completely disagree but that is just a lousy excuse to hire better mentors and a really cheapskate way to facilitate the learning process. Definetly not a bang for your buck.  i can use that money to actually pay for some online tutorials that can actually 'talk' to you and maybe wouldnt even have to sacrifice a daytime job or potential income in the process. 

Afterall they are relatively new and their learning enviroment is not made to suit everyone, so before anyone signs up, you might want to do some research if this is for you.

The sucks. They pretty much don't teach. Their internet capabilities were even lousy. How are you supposed to be a Technological School and have lousy Internet? Seriously? Some "Teachers" don't know how to answer questions. Besides the fact that there are several learning styles as mentioned in a post below... There are several ways a student learns and Everyone is different. You HAVE TO as a teacher learn to appeal to ALL STUDENTS LEARNING STYLES. They say they teach people to "fish". Listen, That's a BS Excuse for saying we don't know how to teach! If you know how to teach you know how to reach students. It is not hand holding or teaching someone to fish if you don't even take the time to explain simple coding methods to them. I learn fine on my own. That's not my problem. You would think when you pay for a school you get more out of it... Otherwise, WHY THE F DO I PAY YOU FOR? GET IT? The School Sucks. PERIOD. Study at home on your own. You're better off.
