The Tech Academy

I am a recent grad of the Python Developer Bootcamp. I have to stay wow. I was brand to world of coding and did not have the slightest bit of knowledge about coding. So obviously it was a little nerve wrecking. The Tech Academy does a absolutely wonderful job of guiding you from basic computer fundamentals through several in demand languages. My particular python developer boot camp included HTML/CSS, SQL, Javascript, and Python. It sound like a lot but I promise it is worth the jump. Believe me I struggled but one thing that stood out to me through the entire boot camp is the willingness and patience instructors have. At time where I felt lost all it took was a email, text, or phone and every instructor I spoke with took as much time as I needed to grasp material. I had an instructor named Levi who literally had to deal with me most of the boot camp and no matter how much I asked he was patience and explained material in numerous ways until I could grasp it. So do not stress they want you to be successful. They are also very quick at responding regardless how you choose to communicate with them. Another thing I have to mention is through the boot camp I need have numerous hiccups in life that slowed my progress down. If you are nervous about life getting in the way and believe you can not learn they are also very understanding. Life happens, things happen and I was almost incredibly shocked how they worked with me to see me be successful and graduate. On top of these points once you finish the boot camp material they have a job placement course where they teach you how to create a resume, a cover letter, how to interview and more. I am a recent graduate of The Tech Academy and I would like to tell you how great of an experience it was.  Not only was the program set up to accommodate my tumultuous schedule (as a single father of 2 young children it is pretty touch and go somedays..) , the material is designed to be relatable and easily digestible.  I came into this boot camp with zero programming experience but walked away confident in my new found skills.  The team of instructors, directors, and general staff members has been friendly and extremely helpful.  Even during the pandemic when most of us feel isolated in our homes I was able to reach out to The Tech Academy team to answer just about any boot camp related question I had and get almost immediate attention.  I would highly recommend any soul looking for a career change to consider software development and then immediately point them to The Tech Academy to teach them the basics of what is needed to succeed.  I feel that The Tech Academy has done right by me, and more importantly, continues to do right by me.   I would happily endorse their program to anyone and everyone. I loved my time at the Tech Academy. After leaving my previous job at the beginning of COVID I was searching for a way to advance my technical skills with a remote learning option. Tech Academy was doing remote learning long before the pandemic, while other boot camps were just starting to adjust. The curriculum included many of the top programming languages and I liked the self-pacing. 

I had previously been a computer programmer for about 6 years, but it had been about 10 years since I had written any code and I wanted to refresh my skills to improve my job prospects. The Tech Academy did exactly that with the Full Stack Software Developer program. Throughout the course I remembered why I loved computer programming and looked forward to each day of course material. When I encountered challenging sections of the course I always felt supported by the instructors. I especially enjoyed the final two-week team projects and felt sad that it had to end; kind of like going home after summer camp.     

I will be honest and say that the course is inadequate on React, and the Django section proved somewhat frustrating, but overall a really good experience. Be prepared to put in at least 40 hours per week at the computer or you will fall behind, as I did, and need to pay more money to finish the course. 

The job placement course and alumni support are outstanding. It can be tough to get a job out there right now, but the guidance they give, and the weekly meetings really help to prepare you and keep you motivated. The placement team called me more than once per week to provide feedback and encouragement.  

Four months after finishing the Bootcamp I landed a job at Amazon as a Senior Technical Product Manager.  Although I had previous coding experience on my resume, the course did refresh my skills to help me get a coveted position at an A tier company. The Tech Academy course material is relevant for the current job market and I would say the background education they give at the start of the course was helpful, especially during the system design and technical interview questions.

 I came into this with zero experience and to be honest a bit tech-resistant. I am proud to be a Tech Academy graduate of the Full Stack Software Developer bootcamp with the base knowledge of what it will take to make the next steps to a wonderful new career. You will get every bit of what you put in and more, out of The Tech Academy experience.They are a wonderfully supportive team. Without any previous coding experience and little network knowledge, I was curious how this would play out. I can only recommend The Tech Academy to anyone I come across who might be even a little interested in technology and the wide world it encompasses. The instructors have helped me through many roadblocks to understanding the how to and implementation of so many concepts that I feel they have done their job exceptionally well. I can find the resources to learn what I need to accomplish for new projects and new technologies. No matter your age, background, or even like me if you can’t type well yet (I can now!), this is such a well executed program that sets you up for success. So many success stories close to home show I can do it too, and again the amazing support system all the way through to job placement has been a top notch experience! You got this!

This boot camp was great. Their website details what each boot camp entails, I personally graduate from the C# .Net framework courses, but they don't really explain the nuance of their services. You get more than just an understanding of code, you use applications that you wouldn't use on your own and are ubiquitous in the industry. Github is one of them. Their job placement course and staff that help you with the job search are worth the cost on their own. People charge a lot of money for the services that The Tech Academy helps you with, resume editing, interview practice, and helping make a great portfolio page. This boot camp doesn't just teach you code, it puts you into the position to get a job then you are done. Having recently completed the Python Boot Camp, I can say the experience is invaluable. Before attending The Tech Academy, I had very little exposure to programming. I learned a lot of useful skills, and I now feel more confident in my ability as a developer. It must be noted that the courses they provide won't teach you everything about a particular subject but rather provide you with a base from which you can expand. More importantly, they teach you how to think like a developer. With this skill, you can continue to further your knowledge of your preferred technologies faster. If you are looking to become a master of a particular subject, this might not be for you. To be honest, I believe you would be hard-pressed to find a boot camp that can provide that kind of experience.

The staff and instructors are absolutely wonderful; reach out frequently as they really are there to help you find success. Ultimately,  you will only get out what you put in during this Bootcamp. You have to take the initiative and be willing to go above and beyond what is required to understand the concepts given. This boot camp is a great tool, and I can't recommend it enough. Happy coding!  Six months ago I started out not knowing anything about code. Now I'm looking for a Software Development job fully confident in my skills and knowledge. They were very flexible when I got sick, and extremely supportive. They always let you know when new opportunities arise, and when insightful meetups are happening. After I land my tech job I plan to go back part time and take on another course in either cyber security or Game Developer which they just released.  Read less

I am so happy with my decision to do my boot camp with the tech academy! I was drawn to the program because it was self-paced, middle of the range in terms of cost and time, and because they built their curriculum for people who have never coded before.

I knew hardly anything about coding to begin with and they really drill the fundamentals before ramping up to more challenging content. I gained a broad base of fundamental skills in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript before moving onto the more specific data science which focus more on statistics, machine learning, Python and R. I can now confidently wrangle, visualize and model data using both Python, R and PowerBI. At the end I did a two week live project that really brought all of those skills together in real-world agile/scrum team environment. I do want to note that Data Science is a big, new, someone ill-defined field and I believe there is no way someone could learn every aspect of it in four months. This bootcamp gave me super solid fundamentals in the areas of statistics, data wrangling/cleaning, data visualization, and machine learning models using both Python and R. I now have the confidence to self educate in these and other areas of interest, as well as the skills to land a junior analyst position.

The course was challenging without being overwhelming and the staff and instructors are available, competent, and they clearly want you to succeed. My job placement coordinator was AMAZING (shout out to Samantha!) She's the closest thing I've ever had to a personal assistant. Whether you need someone to look over a resume or cover letter or to give you a pep talk, they are there for it, present, and keep you on track without being overbearing. They are also very receptive to feedback about the program or your experience both during and after. Overall it was a very positive experience and I feel like I used my quarantine to really get my life on a better track. Read less

The Tech Academy is an amazing school that works with whatever schedule/ financial plan you have to ensure you obtain your goals as a developer/ coder. I knew hardly anything to do with tech and now I'm a full- stack developer in less than a year. The team and staff are all helpful and know what they are doing. This is truly a bottom up learning experience. When they say that you don't need any coding experience to start, that is not a marketing gimmick, it is very true. The way they have their curriculum set up is the very basics at the beginning but as you progress, the material becomes more difficult and in-depth. The important thing to know is that although you will be challenged, you will never be overwhelmed. 

Instructors are incredibly responsive and are rooting for you the entire time. They want you to succeed as much, or more, than you do. 

By the time you graduate you will not only feel that you are ready to take on a Junior Developer role, but that you are capable learning anything that you set your mind to. 

If you are shopping around for a boot camp, please take a good hard look at this one. You will not regret it.  Read less

Before attending The Tech Academy I had no experience with coding, so I was excited to find a bootcamp willing to work with novice students.  The Tech Academy excels in their thorough curriculum and attentive instructors.  There are many basic concepts other bootcamps don't cover, but this academy makes no assumptions in a student's understanding.  As a result, students can be confident the training at The Tech Academy will cover everything needed to get started in the tech industry.  I attended the full-time Software Developer Bootcamp and was extremely happy with the extensive skills and tools available to add to my resume.  I enjoyed learning HTML5, CSS, Java Script, SQL, Visual Studio, Python, and C#/.Net Framework.  There are many skills and tools I gained not listed in the course description.  For example, I gained experience with PyCharm, Visual Studio Code, GitHub, GitHub Desktop, Google Inspect, Command Line coding, SQL Server Management Studio, MVC, and etc.  The most important attributes I obtained from this Bootcamp was perseverance, tenacity, patience with myself as a learner and problem solver.  My entire cognition improved and enabled me to Become a developer.  I learned how to research answers to my questions/issues and debug my own code.  Moreover, I was able to work together with peers, as we helped each other debug code and work as a team.  

Another feature that attracted me to The Tech Academy's Bootcamps is the opportunity they provide to gain real work experience to add to my resume.  It was an incredible experience to work for a real company and add value to their projects.  It was a wonderful opportunity to apply what I learned from each course.  The instructors taught me how to create a portfolio on GitHub to collect my projects and display my abilities to potential employers.

I don't have the words to express my appreciation for the knowledgable, compassionate, empowering instructors.  There were times I worried about my ability to continue in this dynamic bootcamp and they bolstered me to persevere.  The instructors were balanced in their approach to teach and challenge us as students.  

Finally, the aspect that sold me on The Tech Academy is their Job Placement Course and their commitment to support and facilitate my ability to earn employment as a graduate.  Their high job placement rate is impressive.  As I worked through the course a Job Placement Director gave me valuable feedback on each aspect of the job search process.  These factors all contributed to my success in gaining satisfying employment shortly after graduation!     Read less

The Tech Academy is the best place to start your career if you are planning to change your field or if you are already in software development field and would like to enhance your skills, they have a complete curriculum and it is self paced which helps tremendously, you can take as much time you need with a topic. The instructors are very helpful and always reachable, I have seen some boot camps where they have one instructor and 50 students and it can take hours to get an answer but with this boot camp that is not the case. You will not regret your decision if you choose to start with this boot camp. Read less

The Tech Academy was well worth my time and money and allows one the credentials and know-how to find your way around the world of software development. It is more of a broad, shallower dive into multiple languages and paradigms vs. going into depth on one or two languages. They have many paths one could take depending on the career you would like to have. I went down the Full-Stack Software Developer Boot Camp path and it really gave me a sense of the field. 

You need to make sure you do a ton of self-studying to fill in gaps in any knowledge as a lot of information is abstracted away, more of the details, that is, and you are given a general understanding and introduction to web, version control, and C styled languages. Also included are Python and Visual Studio. There are actually two Live Courses that have you develop customer products in a two-week sprint, respectively. There are, however, 4 available if you finish early enough to have an extra 4 weeks to complete the 2 on top of the 2 mandatory ones. I'd highly suggest you try and go this route as more exposure to real codebases and working in an Agile environment can only help.

The only other advice I'd give is, right from the start, make sure to beef up and keep organized, your GitHub repos and side projects. When applying to jobs, companies don't want to see school projects unless they are substantial, so take on a few substantially sized projects that you eventually deploy and can put on your resumé and show off to potential employers.   Read less

I'm a recent graduate of the Tech Academy, and I was very pleased with my experience. All of the staffing including Instructors are very knowledgeable and helpful. One instructor took half of his day to help me on a particularly nasty JavaScript bug. The strengths of the Tech Academy are its instructors, its easy to follow curriculum, and its flexible schedule. I came from a career that wasn't in tech and now because of the tech academy I can code full stack applications using C#, Python, JavaScript, SQL, CSS, and HTML. I am a 31-year-old former teacher who wanted to change careers for a variety of reasons, and I ended up going with The Tech Academy after a recommendation from a friend who successfully changed careers after attending the same bootcamp. I’m local to their main campus, but due to Covid I did the entire thing remotely.

Essentially, The Tech Academy was a good choice. I am successfully employed in the industry, and though I credit networking and soft skills to getting a job during covid, I wouldn’t be eligible for this job without The Tech Academy. I had some issues with their curriculum structure and I wish there had been more experience with certain technologies, but overall I feel like I have a solid foundation of programming concepts and I have the skills and knowledge to teach myself what I would need to know for a job.

I did the Overview of Software Development bootcamp full time, which is their most comprehensive bootcamp. It includes courses in CS fundamentals HTML, CSS, Javascript, SQL, Python, Project Management, C#, and Job Placement. Since I was changing careers, I wanted the broadest exposure to tech I could get to maximize my career options on the other side. It was definitely challenging, and definitely worth it.

Since it’s so broad, the bootcamp can really only scratch the surface of all of those languages, but as a recent graduate I feel like I could get by in any of them. I definitely still feel like a beginner, but that’s normal for a junior developer. I also feel confident that I can build a website from scratch, and I’m interested in doing some self-study to buff up my CSS skills beyond beginner-level. The Python and C# courses are especially engaging and include team projects where you work on Django and ASP.NET web apps, respectively. 

The courses are a combination of reading/learning about terms and technologies, coding along with a video, doing short assignments, and a couple larger projects in each course. One of the projects is building your own portfolio website, which is nice since you’re learning the tech with project you will definitely use later. In my opinion, based on how I felt about each language at the end, the best course was the Python course and the worst course was the Javascript course. 

I see people everywhere online talk about jQuery, Node.JS, and React, and these were barely touched on in the Javascript course - it seems like hardly anyone uses vanilla Javascript anymore. I basically feel like I need to start from scratch again with Javascript. It’s such a powerful language but I don’t think I got a good idea of how to use it outside of very basic web interactivity.

There were times when I was frustrated with the structure of some of the courses - I learn by doing, and especially the CSS and Javascript courses spent a little too much time with “code along with this video” while I needed more “Here’s a project, go do it”. There was a lot more of that in the Python and C# courses. 

It’s worth mentioning that the team of instructors is amazing! They are super responsive, very patient, and always ready to help out whenever. If one of them doesn’t know an answer, it seems like they work together to make sure everyone’s questions are addressed. There was even a time when I asked a question about something that wasn’t required to move on, and they took the time to help me out anyway even though they didn’t need to. 

I got a job before I needed their job placement resources, but I can tell that they put a lot of their energy into helping graduates find work. They promote their students being a part of a learning community by offering weekly round-table discussions and weekly tech-talks, and encouraging students to go to tech meetups to learn more and start networking. 

Tl;dr though I had some minor qualms with their curriculum and course structure, their support system is excellent, I feel like I got a solid foundation of programming concepts, and I feel prepared to begin a career in tech.

The Tech Academy was by far the best school I have been apart of. Coming from zero background in software development, The Tech Academy was able to break down languages that I could understand. I completed the Software Development Bootcamp and this program is definitely setting the bar high when it comes to coding bootcamps. This is by far the most thorough learning experience i've come across when it comes to learning to code. I was able to learn at my own pace and I had direct instructor feedback whenever I became stuck. I was directly supported by the wonderful staff at The Tech Academy every step of the way, from working with my specific situation to get me enrolled - to continued support from their job placement team after graduation.  I would recommend any of the coding bootcamps The Tech Academy provides!
