The learning curriculum covers all essentials to gain a holistic view for web development, from front-end, back-end, tools, platforms, a bit of product development. I transformed from a non-coder to a coder --- which all thanks to this intensive 12 weeks. I love the setting of live lecture - challenges - live code mechanism. The challenges everyday were well selected and relevant to the course. It helps me learn and apply for what I learnt. The lecturers and TAs(teacher assistants) were really helpful as well. Project weeks were the highlight where I got the chance to work on real projects and make an application functional, but these were also the most intense weeks as well. At the end of the bootcamp, we got one extra week for career, where we can update our CV, LinkedIn, Github pages and get ourselves job search ready. Overall I am very satisfied with it. One concern I have to the curriculum is that we didn't learn enough javascript which is the most popular language at the job market right now.General Assembly

The coursework is challenging, yet closely aligned with the real problems one tackles in the field of software development. While the learning progression is rapid, the curriculum is well scaffolded to bring learners along. There is a strong focus on the soft skills required to work as a part of a modern development team as reinforced by projects and assignments in teams of various sizes. Turing's ability to impart soft skills was something I didn't fully appreciate until after I had worked in the industry a few years and was sitting on the other side of the interview table. I was extremely worried starting the program because I had a previous bad experience with another SE Bootcamp called FlatIron because they didn't actually teach you any lessons in the bootcamp and only offered minimum support for learning the concepts, so I wasn't sure what to expect going into Code Platoon's program. However, I had absolutely no reason to worry because Code Platoon is far superior to the other bootcamp and the staff genuinely care about their students and will put the time in to make sure you understand the topics and concepts. The instructors presented the lectures in ways that made it easy to follow and ask questions and if you didn't understand they'd break the concept down a different way to help make it clear. They always encouraged questions and class participation and were always available to offer assistance to students if you are struggling. I felt as though they really cared about ensuring each one of us in our cohort was successful in the program. They also offer a robust curriculum that prepares you with the fundamentals as well as languages such as Django, PostgreSQL, Flask, React, etc. We also always had TAs available to help us during class hours and after hours to ensure we weren't getting stuck on problems or issues. During the program they also setup Beyond Tech Talks and brought in employers to prepare us for topics we needed to know going into a tech career. Finally, their Career Services and Job Assistance also goes above and beyond as they incorporate several topics like behavioral interviews, technical interviews, job search best practices, etc to make sure we are prepared for job searching as soon as we complete the program. We also got to talk to employers like Google and DFR to learn about interviewing process best practices and what to expect in your first role. During the program they also set you up with a mentor and a volunteer resume coach to offer you additional support and resources. Code Platoon truly goes above and beyond to make sure their students are setup for success. As I stated above, this bootcamp is top notch and by far the best bootcamp out there for active duty military members and their families, as well as veterans and their families. I'm so grateful I was given the opportunity to complete this bootcamp. They also offer a variety of ways to pay for the program so you have flexibility. You won't regret attending this bootcamp!Altcademy

Overall, the bootcamp is great - you learn a lot in a short amount of time. I would recommend a bootcamp if you are in a hurry to change careers. That being said, LHL is not responsible for the overarching job market / economic climate. When I graduated every tech giant was doing mass layoffs. Bear that in mind before making a decision. Nothing is guaranteed. After a total of 8 months (which includes 3months of bootcamp) i finally landed a junior dev role. And I was lucky. That being said, the support from career services was good. They help where they can. If I were to use an analogy: they are a passenger in the car you are driving. Is it worth the money? I'm not sure. I think that they do a lot of behind-the-scenes work that indirectly benefited me.
Overall, if you are passionate about tech and want to start your career, give it a go. Life is too short.
For curriculum I would prefer not spending a week on Ruby. I think the curriculum would be better served with an extra week with React or learning Typescript. Pivoting out of Javascript for a week didn't feel worth it to me. On top of that none of the TAs who picked up my request-tickets knew the language. The only fringe benefit of the Ruby week was that it was nice to see the MVC approach.Launch School

The program consists of two main phases: Core Curriculum and Capstone. The Core Curriculum uses a mastery-based learning pedagogy to teach fundamentals of software development. It takes approximately 1200-1800 hours (8-16+ months) to complete, and students can choose either a Ruby or JavaScript focused track through Core. After that, there is an optional and admissions-based Capstone Program that's focused on helping students acquire career-launching opportunities. I found Launch School from a random Reddit thread and I'm so glad I did. I was considering whether to join a traditional 3-9 month bootcamp, go back to college,I found Launch School from a random Reddit thread and I'm so glad I did. I was considering whether to join a traditional 3-9 month bootcamp, go back to college, or self-teach. Launch School stood out to me for a few reasons:
- Rigorous curriculum & assessments: As a 30ish year old career transitioner with an existing college degree, I wanted to get serious about learning, have external accountability, and a clear path forward. Launch School gave me all of these.
- Cost & Flexibility: I wasn't ready to commit $15k to 25k+ for a bootcamp or the cost of another college degree. I dabbled in learning programming before starting Launch School prep but was still evaluating whether this was the right career move for me. Being able to pay $200 per month and pause anytime without penalty was a huge benefit. I never paused my Launch School subscription and I ended up paying roughly $4,000 for 21 months of Core which was the best money I have ever spent on education.
- Learn at your own pace: I talked to a few people who had gone through full time 3-month bootcamps. The long hours and aggressive schedule (where you miss a few days and you are out, with no refund) was not an option for me. I loved being able to set my own schedule with Launch School. It ensured that I had ample time to learn deeply and spend extra time when I needed it.
- Low hype: I was looking for a program with history of results and realistic expectations for success without the VC funded over-hype. Launch School's website, online reputation, and results spoke volumes about the quality and gave me clear expectations going in. Those expectations were met and exceeded.
What I didn't realize when joining was how robust and welcoming the student and alumni community would be. I got to meet and study with interesting and smart people from all over the world who gently pushed me to be a better student. I made lifelong friends who I have visited and worked with since graduating. The community of studious learners is a huge advantage.
The Core program was thorough and challenging. I knew where to get support when I needed it. I spent a lot of time studying on my own, one-on-one with fellow students, and in small study groups. Assessments were stressful because I wanted to do well for myself and they were extremely useful as a tangible measure of progress and feedback on my learning. The Core program was laid out linearly so I always knew what to work on next. This was extremely helpful after after my prior experience jumping from tutorial to tutorial without learning or applying much knowledge. When I finished Core I felt like I'd mastered programming fundamentals and could take on harder challenges. I also gained a confidence in my ability to learn new things deeply which continues to support my curiousity today.
The Capstone program was a shift in learning style, equally rigorous and rewarding. I learned so much in a short period of time and got to build actual software with a group of teammates. We learned, discussed topics and practiced techniques that helped my land my initial job and that I anticipate using for years to come. The job support after Capstone was thoughtful and incredibly helpful. Getting a software job is its own skill and Capstone helped me learn, apply, and iterate my own job search framework which I can carry forward to the future. I landed my first software job offer within a month of graduating and accepted an offer 3 months after graduating despite a tough job market.
During the job, I realized how much my experience in Core and Capstone had prepared me. I was able to become productive within a week, submit code and shape features within the first month at a fast paced startup. Within a few months I was reviewing code of more junior engineers and leading small development projects. I worked with many new technologies and tools I did not learn at Launch School and was able to pick them up quickly thanks to my experience in Core and Capstone.
Launch School's teaching style works great for self-motivated students who are ready to take their learning and career into their own hands. I got rigorous curriculum, a clear path forward, great feedback, and a solid community for $200 a month (Core). It was the best educational experience I've had so far and I'm grateful for it. If I were starting over in my software journey, I'd do it all again the same way at Launch School.
The challenges I observed as a Launch School student (None of these detracted from my experience, but I think they are helpful to know for students who may be in a different situation than me):
- The student and alumni community is large, friendly, and accessible. Launch School staff and teaching assistants are also friendly, supportive, and readily available. However, you must be proactive in engaging with the community and asking for help when you need it. Less outgoing, introverted students may need to get out of their comfort zone to engage with the community which is entirely online.
- Launch School is not a shortcut to a guaranteed high paying job. It takes serious study and time to learn software engineering fundamentals deeply. That's what I was looking for and the time I spent was worth it. I was lucky to have financial support during the time so I could focus on studying and I know many people who worked and studied part time, which they couldn't have done with other programs.
- Learning on my own (setting my own schedule, study habits, staying focused, etc) was challenging but extremely rewarding. I had periods where I lost focus and studied less but I kept on the path and grew my study skills over time. I came out of Core in the best "study" shape of my life.
My recommendations for students considering Launch School:
- Read all you can online about the program from the official website, subreddit, YouTube, Launch School blog + podcast, etc. There is so much information there that will help you decide if it is the right program for your needs and situation. Launch School has done a great job of laying out the key factors to consider when evaluating them vs other learning paths (many of which are applicable regardless of the path you choose). Many common questions have been answered by Launch School staff and others in blog posts and comments.
- Try the prep course. It is free and well worth your time even if you decide Launch School isn't the right fit for you. You will also get access to the community and can ask questions there from a host of helpful folks and staff.Microverse

I have previously received a Bachelor’s degree in business and began learning on my own over a year ago. I joined CodeCore because I found the complete full stack difficult to learn on my own. I wanted more hands on training and to be able to code with a group (as you would on a job) and to get more feedback and code review.
It was hard work, and I really loved how much there was to learn and how quickly I could take it in thanks to the bootcamp format. Instruction took place in the morning then we did labs to practice during the afternoon. Homework and exams helped further cement knowledge and build confidence. The quality of the teaching was excellent - Steve and Tam are great instructors with valuable industry knowledge. And the TAs are excellent - friendly, highly skilled and helpful.
I’m getting ready to start my first position as a full stack dev and I’m beyond excited. Advice I would give if you’re thinking of joining CodeCore is work hard, take it seriously, ask for help when you need it., and maximize your potential learning by practicing the basics as much as possible before starting. They really want you to succeed and will do everything to help you learn and prepare for jobs afterward. There’s a good reason past grads regularly keep in touch with CodeCore: CodeCore builds community and values its alumni and students.

This course was taken during the pandemic so it was mostly done online. There was an option to go in the classroom but it was the middle of winter and leaving the house didn't seem as appealing. All of the instructors were great. They did a good job of explaining the concepts and helping you if you needed it. You will not be spoon-fed information. There is a level of expectation for you to put in some work so be prepared to spend some of your own time to figure things out. Make sure you go into the program with a good basic foundation (html, css, javascript). We had a really good group within my cohort. Everyone was helpful and wanted to be better. I enjoyed my time at Launch Academy and will never forget the experience.Grand Circus

Says: LEARN: The most well-rounded and experienced bootcamp in the San Diego area
When deciding on which coding bootcamp there are several key factors when need to consider, and in this review, I will explain those key factors and how LEARN AWhen deciding on which coding bootcamp there are several key factors when need to consider, and in this review, I will explain those key factors and how LEARN Academy proved to be the best professional educational decision for my goals.- In-person vs. online: I started my LEARN Academy cohort in February 2020 and for better or worse was able to experience both the in-class and online (Zoom - remote) version of LEARN Academy as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. In an ideal world, one should attend the in-person experience in order to further solidify friendships within your cohort, the teamwork aspect of being able to discuss code in-person with a whiteboard, and just the general fun of being able to walk around the classroom with a Kombucha in your hand and see what your peers are code. Nonetheless halfway through my bootcamp, we pivoted to remote and we didn’t skip a beat. I feel that all aspects of the curriculum were maintained and we were even able to quickly start utilizing important digital tools more heavily (Git, Slack, VS Code Liveshare) that are fundamental for remote dev work in the future anyway. Overall “in-person” I feel is ideal for learning, but LEARN was super successful in replicating the “in-person” experience online.
- Internship: The internship is a TREMENDOUS value add for choosing LEARN Academy. I had the opportunity to join a company and work alongside 5 developers at a fast-growing startup in San Diego (keep in mind I started to learn to code just 15 weeks prior). My internship was extended and I continued to work for 10 months at the same company gaining practical coding experience every day. I was hired as a contract worker with no benefits, but nonetheless, it was an invaluable experience to work on actual production code. The internship is guaranteed for 4 weeks but I would say ⅓ of my cohort was asked to extend for 1 or more months and they were also paid for their extensions and were able to put actual development work on their resumes.
- Tech Stack: The tech stack I learned while at learn was React, Javascript, HTML, CSS, Ruby on Rails, and Postgresql. All of these technologies are widely used today and if you are new to the industry they serve as a solid foundation to grow from. My internship was entirely in Vue but I used my React foundational skills I learned at LEARN to rapidly learn the basics of Vue (over the weekend from when my classroom experience ended and internship began the following Monday).
- Quality of teaching instruction: During my course, I had three daily instructors committed to my cohort ~6 to 1 student to teacher ratio (they pivot the number of instructors based on class size). All in all the teachers I had were able to meet me at my learning level and explain complex concepts into more easily digestible content. They were ALWAYS available to answer questions and held office hours. Like most things in life you get what you put in, so make sure you ask questions all the time and ASK for help when you need it. We also had an excellent Professional Development week, led by the Career Services Manager, and in addition, had access to other developers at several of the dev agencies that were in the same building. If my instructors didn’t immediately know the answer to my question or debug my problem they were able to get back to me with my answer in a timely manner. In addition, we had various guest speakers and panels (from the SD tech scene) which made class each week super interesting.
- Prep Materials: The best resource that LEARN offers in terms of preparation for the bootcamp is their JumpStart weekend. I highly highly highly recommend you participate in that weekend as that was the defining experience that made me decide whether I liked to code and whether I had the confidence in myself to pick up skills quickly over a short period of time. I went into my cohort with about 2 weeks of prior Javascript training and the JumpStart weekend but it was really not enough. I highly recommend people begin studying at least 3 months prior to your cohort (I fully realize that is easier said than done, with life and work, but anyone who came in with prior coding knowledge in my cohort accelerated their learning 2x-5x compared to myself who just wrote my first line of code 14 days before my first day of class.)
- Facilities: LEARN Academy classroom was GORGEOUS in Union Co-work near Petco Park in downtown SD. Unfortunately, I could only attend for 8 weeks due to COVID but the surrounding made you feel like a true web developer in the chic industrial glass-lined classroom. Also the free Kombucha, coffee, tea, and beer (after hours) wasn’t too bad! They also have two main classrooms so we were frequently able to do check-out (sharing what you learned) at the end of the day and learn what the other cohort who started before us was working on that day.
- Community: The LEARN Academy Community is the most vibrant tech career pivoter/bootcamp community in San Diego hands-down. Pre-COVID LEARN held bi-monthly meetups in its classrooms, celebratory cohort get-togethers, project demo days, and evening guest speakers. Now the community of course has shifted remote, but the online Slack community is also super active. On Day 1 you are welcomed into the Slack group and tons of people who were in your shoes starting the bootcamp who now have fancy developer jobs in the San Diego area (and beyond) are willing to help answer your questions and refer you to positions. Once you are a LEARN alum you enter a network of tech leaders at major tech companies throughout San Diego/California and beyond. One additional thing (which I think they still do), is if you want they pair you with another LEARN grad to serve as your Mentor. To this day (Jan 2021) I still meet with my Mentor each week and he has been an invaluable resource post bootcamp for skill development, motivation, and job search help..
- Growth Areas for LEARN: 1) Improvements to my experience include a more clear path of what milestones I needed to achieve in my coding skills before being ready for Day 1 of the bootcamp. I was provided resources but had no idea where to start. I believe that they are now offering propriety prep materials to new students (I just haven’t reviewed them as they were not available to me when I started) 2)Focus more curriculum time on unit testing. We learned Jest Javascript testing (for maybe 1.5 weeks) I feel like it is a critical developer skill that I personally did not pick up quickly and should be prioritized earlier. 3)Introduce earlier data structures and algorithms into the curriculum, as many technical interviews nowadays focus heavily on them. Overall at the end of the day with 12 weeks to go from 0 to junior dev I understand it is tough to squeeze it all in, regardless LOTS of personal self-study is necessary to keep up with the pace of the class if you come in with no prior coding skills.
Overall, there are plenty more points to speak about when speaking about LEARN but at the end of the day after three months of classroom instruction, I was successfully contributing to an agile development team at a tech company in San Diego. The process to prepare for the bootcamp, take the bootcamp, and perform at your internship is INTENSE. The skills to learn to code is like learning a foreign language you constantly need to have a growth mindset and practice, practice, practice. 10 months after my bootcamp I am still growing and learning each day and that never changes. You must have it within yourself to persevere, be a self-starter, and make many many many personal, financial, and family sacrifices to have a chance at getting a junior developer position in 2021. With that being said LEARN is the most well-rounded and experienced resource available in the San Diego area to place your faith in to prepare you for a successful life-changing career pivot.- 29Reviews4CoursesSuncoast Developers Guild Academy offers a 3-month, full-time, full stack web development bootcamp, along with 6-week part-time courses in web development ba... I first learned about SDG while searching for coding schools in Florida. They were offering a test drive class at the time so I decided that would be a good place to start and see if coding was for me. Well, that class left me wanting more and I fell in love with the staff so I knew I would be attending their academy.
The academy is tough. I commuted to school every day which made the long hours even longer. But it was worth it. Mark was my instructor and he was amazing. He could take all the technical jargon and turn it into English and then break down all the steps and pieces for us. The projects start off easy and get harder the further along you get in the course. By the end of the course, you can deploy an app or website from scratch. The academic part of the academy really pushed me out of my comfort zone and I am so grateful. After my graduation the pandemic caused the world to go into shutdown but I was able to take on freelance projects successfully because of the skills I learned from SDG.
There is also a soft skills/career prep section in this academy. I came into this with a lot of soft skills so that information wasn't new to me but I could see how valuable it was to some of the younger dev students that haven't had as much work experience.
The career prep is focused on this industry and for the Tampa area. That was so valuable to me. I haven't been in the area long so I didn't have a network for the job search. Well with SDG you get to use their network and they have made great connections all over The Greater Tampa Bay. This network was key in helping me find my job.
During the career prep, they help you with your resume, LinkedIn, interview prep both the conversational part and the technical interview.
You get tons of help and support after graduation in finding a job. I was amazed at how SDG lived up to its promise to help you in this area.
I'm now working for my dream company doing my dream job. I am still pinching myself how everything worked out. I'm not going to lie it is hard but it is worth it because it is life-changing. Product Hall
