Introduction and Decision-Making Process
When I first started researching bootcamps, NuCamp stood out because of its affordable price and flexible schedule, combining self-paced learning with instructor support and a community for help and advice. These factors played a significant role in my decision to choose NuCamp.
Course Structure and Content
The course structure was well-designed. The bootcamp I attended was the FullStack and Mobile App Development bootcamp, which teaches JavaScript fundamentals and how to build FullStack applications with MongoDB, Express, React, and NodeJS (MERN stack). It also covered React Native for mobile app development. The subjects built on each other as the course progressed, and some topics were revisited to reinforce learning.
The bootcamp is structured with weekly assignments that include lesson overview videos, lesson videos, and exercise videos to follow along with. Sometimes there would be practice lessons where we wouldn't code using VSCode on our computers but use CodePen or similar websites that allow students to code in the browser and post links to their code. There were also discussion forums for students to post some of the assignments and discuss them with each other, similar to college discussion posts. At the end of the week, there is a quiz and a weekly feedback session where students can share what they liked or any potential issues. This approach makes you feel like NuCamp genuinely cares about student experiences.
Each section of the bootcamp allows students to work on a portfolio project, either individually or in teams, to facilitate their learning. Although I noticed that portfolio projects were mentioned less frequently during the workshops towards the end of the bootcamp, I recommend doing a portfolio project for each course in the FullStack bootcamp as they significantly enhance your learning, coding, research, and debugging skills.
NuCamp’s community is on Discord, with various servers for different courses. The servers include instructors, students, graduates, and ambassadors who can help answer questions. This is very useful and makes the community feel lively and active.
Flexibility and Part-Time Schedule
The bootcamp offered a flexible schedule, allowing me to complete lessons at my own pace throughout the week. As long as the lesson modules were completed before the weekend workshop, you’re on track.
Instruction and Mentorship
The instructors were very knowledgeable. While the quality of instruction can vary depending on the instructor, mine were responsive on Discord, typically replying within a day.
Learning Environment
The learning environment was generally good. Weekly workshops facilitated useful discussions, and many students shared common issues. The Discord community was a valuable resource for finding answers. Considering debugging and fixing issues is a big part of software development, NuCamp has a guideline called the 20-minute rule, which encourages students to research answers to any question that arises for 20 minutes before asking for help.
Skills and Knowledge Gained
I gained significant technical skills, particularly in JavaScript and FullStack MERN applications. However, I supplemented my learning with additional YouTube videos for specific topics and portfolio project needs.
Career Support and Outcomes
Completing the FullStack bootcamp gave me the skills to build FullStack applications. While it doesn't guarantee immediate job placement, it provides access to NuCamp's Job Hunting course content. Paying for the course includes instructor support.
Cost and Value
NuCamp offers an affordable price compared to other bootcamps that can cost upwards of $10K. It also provides lifetime access to course content. The part-time, self-paced format means it takes longer than some other bootcamps, which might have full-day classes, but this isn't necessarily a drawback.
Challenges and Areas for Improvement
One area for improvement is the inconsistency between videos and written lessons, particularly in the NodeJS and MongoDB sections. Video instructions sometimes used different versions than the written instructions, causing confusion and time-consuming debugging sessions. While debugging is a critical skill, the inconsistency could be frustrating.
Conclusion
Overall, I rate NuCamp highly. The FullStack bootcamp provides enough knowledge and confidence to create your own projects and continue learning independently. It also helps you identify areas where you need further learning, which is crucial for advancing in FullStack application development.

FromI recently completed the Software Engineering Bootcamp at General Assembly and it has been an extraordinary journey. Very tough, but definitely worth it.
From day one, the course was well structured and a nice balance between theory and practical, hands-on projects. The curriculum is well-designed, covering a wide range of topics, from basic programming concepts to complex algorithms and data structures. My instructor was exceptional. They were able to bring their previous experience into the classroom and give us some good tips and tricks on how our days will work when we are a developer. They were always available for one-on-one sessions, to answer questions and provide guidance on projects.
Another highlight of the program was the collaborative environment. I was initially skeptical that an online program would be particularly engaging but we worked closely with others in the class, and have even met with them in person after the course finished. We worked on numerous group projects big and small that simulated real software development scenarios.
In conclusion, The skills, confidence, and connections I've gained are invaluable. I highly recommend this program to anyone looking to make a significant impact in their professional life.Coding Dojo

First of all, I have a great support system at home that allowed me to focus 100% on this course for 4 months. I was able to take a recourse to prepare me for the full-time program.
The first month was HARD. I thought I was going to give up. The assignments are fast, and I spent all of my free time studying. It was difficult not to compare where I stood to others in my class. At my toughest moment, I reached out to my Career Services Manager and my TA. They both helped encourage me and offer support when I needed them.
I would say the most important take-aways for those looking to join the bootcamp: Make sure you have a support system. Don't compare yourself to others in the class. Stay dedicated and find the motivation behind why you're doing this.
Coding Dojo has great resources throughout the course, that continue on for 6 months after you graduate. There is also an option to pay more for a yearly alumni pass.Actualize

A big factor in that was the small cohort size. With only 7 other people in the class, we all got to know each other well and spend plenty of time working together to solve problems and help each other out every day. In fact, I've become friends with 2 others in the class, and we plan to hold each other accountable in our job search and continuous learning.
A special shoutout is well-deserved to Peter Jang, the instructor. He was funny, had lessons that were easy to understand, and had an positive attitude that was a great motivator. He was always willing to answer any questions we asked or even offered to stay late after class to help out with tougher issues.
I also appreciated the "job hacking" portion of the class where we spent an hour every week learning how to network, get interviews, and land jobs. An hour might not sound like a lot, but we also had homework that forced us out of our comfort zone in order to get connections and find the right jobs for us.
After 5 months in the cohort, I definitely see the improvements. I couldn't see myself learning how to do a CRUD app or realizing that I love backend way more than frontend code before the beginning of the course. Now, I have multiple side projects that I want to tackle, and it's possible to do so because of the foundation created during the bootcamp.
I'm still looking for jobs, but I definitely wouldn't be as confident in my search now if it wasn't for the bootcamp and the support from instructors and classmates.Codesmith

I know most everyone who reads these reviews wants to know whether or not they will get a job and I'm confident to say that if I can do it, anyone can do it. The only downside I can think of with this bootcamp would be that my cohort was over 70 students which made it a bit tough to get 1 on 1 time with the instructors and to have your personal questions answered. I hope everyone who reads this that are thinking about going this career route has an opportunity to talk to them and check out what an amazing school they are. They will help you throughout the whole program, is not a moment that are going to feel alone. This is a life-changing decision and they would make it fun and dynamic to learn it and be part of the experience. BTW I hate writing reviews but they deserve every word and this would change everyone's lives.Devmountain

I almost didn't sign up for a bootcamp and wanted to do it myself with online courses. I couldn't really justify a remote camp because why not just do it through udemy otherwise? So I wanted something I could attend in person both for accountability and for atmosphere and environment. I also wanted something affordable.
The fact that the course was only 13 weeks was another big plus. I wanted to be done, and be working on my own projects and looking for a job. So this course gave me what I was looking for.
And hey, another huge perk? I was able to live in the student housing provided. :) The course was great! I would recommend it.DigitalCrafts

During the 17-week full-time program I experienced tremendous growth and was able to build much greater things than I expected. On the 17th week I was accepted into an internship and it's because of this bootcamp. During the full-time bootcamp it is up to you and how hard you are willing to apply yourself during this time. If you need to recharge, recharge. However, if you have free time, commit it to learning new technologies or improving existing skills. As I write this, I am now familiarizing myself with an entirely new codebase and beginning work with 40 other developers. The curriculum keeps you moving and lays an important foundation for new developers. Also, I would recommend Veronica as an instructor. If you're willing to work hard and you aren't just trying to "get by" - this bootcamp will be great for you.Hack Reactor
